Coffee Lovers in Mourning
Cuba City is currently enjoying a new coffee shop, but in 1964, coffee lovers in town were in mourning:
"The demise of the 5 cent cup of coffee was memorialized at Florine’s here last Wednesday, when a number of patrons (mourners) arrived replete with coffin, flowers and a sign at 10 A.M. Butch & Sylvia McCrea, owners, flanked the tear causing memorial along with Melvin Duncan. The sign said, “Gone, but not forgotten” – 5 cent cup of coffee as of July 22, 1964. The 10 cent cup of coffee made its appearance on Thursday, July 22, as did some of the patrons with tears in their eyes." - Tri-County Press (July 30, 1964).
