Get Your Ukulele Fix at The Gem

What summer would be complete without "the gladsome twang of the ukulele"? You could get your fix at the Gem Studio which, in addition to being a photography studio, sold other merchandise, such as phonographs and records, one hundred years ago.

Published in the Cuba City News-Herald (August 26, 1921).

The Gem was opened by Harry Andrew in December 1920 and was located behind the Northwestern Hotel, which was where Mound City Bank is today. The business was later moved to 111 S. Main, currently the southern addition to the Dead End Bar & Grill.

And, another fun fact: The Cuba City High School had a ukulele club in the early 1920s!
