A New Hall for Cuba City

One hundred years ago, contractor R. F. Conlon was putting the finishing touches on Cuba City's new municipal building, visible in the photograph below. On March 11, 1921, the Cuba City News-Herald reported on the building's progress, observing that "the apparatus of the fire department and the safe, tables and chairs have all been moved in. The fire bell has been put in position and had been given a try out."

Cuba City's second municipal building is visible on the left (with the bell tower) in this 1925 photograph.

Perhaps the first official event held in the new village hall and fire station was a village caucus on March 18, 1921. The upcoming election offered another opportunity for residents to inspect the building.

The previous village hall had been located at the corner of Clay and Washington Streets, where MidwestOne Bank stands today. The building was sold at a public auction in September 1920, moved to 400 E. Clay Street, and remodeled as a residence.
