Santa Claus Comes to Cuba City
As you send off holiday greetings this year, know that Cuba City residents have been sending and receiving Christmas cards for well over a century. On Christmas Eve 1919, this postcard was mailed to Miss Theresa Hoelting, of rural Cuba City.
Theresa lived with her parents and siblings on a farm in Elk Grove Township, near present-day Red's Supper Club. Theresa taught school for a time, and her well-wishers, Lula and Erma H., were likely Lula and Erma Huntington, sisters who lived in Elk Grove and were perhaps friends or former students of Miss Hoelting.
A few years after this card was received, Theresa married Walter Wood, and the couple raised their family in Green County, Wisconsin.
