Women May Vote

One hundred years ago today, the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution went into effect, granting women the right to vote. The momentous occasion went by without much fanfare in the Cuba City News-Herald, but this note was published a month earlier, assuring Wisconsin women that they could vote in the upcoming presidential election, despite continued challenges to the suffrage movement. Wisconsin was the first state to ratify the 19th amendment on June 10, 1919.
