Fiedler's Jack Sprat food store
This September 1945 flyer from Fiedler's Store gives us an idea of what was on grocery store shelves in Cuba City during World War II. Though the war had just ended, the store was still offering "victory bags" of coffee, as well as an assortment of other staples.
As the advertisement makes clear, Fiedler's sold the Jack Sprat brand, which was manufactured by the Western Grocer Co. headquartered in Marshalltown, Iowa.
At the time of this advertisement, Fiedler's Store was located where Gile Real Estate & Insurance is today.
I remember this store well and was sent by my mother more than once to but some groceries. No cash changed hands. Everyone who want it could have a "house account" and was billed once a month.
