Beware the Mail-order Catalog
Long before big-box stores and Amazon, small businesses had another rival: the mail-order catalog. This hundred-year-old ad for McNett & Banfield's "Independent Store" lists several reasons why folks should shop locally.
The store was operated by Elmer McNett and Clyde Banfield and was located in the First National Bank building (later Cuba City State Bank) on the corner of Main and Clay Streets.
