Conlon's Paving Operation

Road construction season is upon us, and the Conlon paving crew of Cuba City was hard at work in this image. The first road pavement in Cuba City was laid along a stretch of Main Street in 1915.

Richard F. Conlon was a well known contractor in the early 1900s. He and his crews were involved with all kinds of projects, from road paving and concrete work to home, business, and church construction. According to the Conlon Construction Company's website, R. F. Conlon started his business in 1903 and moved it to Dubuque in 1922, where it still exists today.
