Gangsters in Cuba City?

National and international newspapers were buzzing about Cuba City in May 1934. This was the age of the gangster and one of America's most notorious criminals, John Dillinger, may have been hiding out at an abandoned mine near Cuba City. Federal agents armed with machine guns were in the area investigating and prepared for possible warfare with Dillinger and his men. Check out these articles, made available through Google's Newspaper Archive:

Dubuque Telegraph Herald article, May 17, 1934

Pittsburgh Press article, May 18, 1934

Montreal Gazette article, May 18, 1934

On a personal note, my grandfather was just a boy when a man approached him in a Dickeyville gas station, claiming to be Dillinger. I have also heard of other Dillinger sightings in the area during this time period.
