What a Difference a Year Makes
What a difference a year makes! These photos of North Main Street facing west/northwest were taken roughly a year apart.
The first photo captured construction of the First National Bank on the corner of Main and Clay Street in 1907. Next to the bank, where City Hall and Gile Cheese stand today, were a livery barn and residence.
By the time the second photograph was taken, circa 1908, the lots were empty. Before construction of the new village hall began in 1920, these empty lots served as a baseball diamond, site for traveling tent shows, and a cow pasture.
